Hear now the tale of the dragon sworn.
The race that was and would be.
The race that almost wasn’t,
The winged ones,
Gliding over mountain and above cloud,
The fire born,
The magic sworn.
Their time is come,
Their end near,
Where is there god?
Where is their magic?
Wings spread wide to fight back the inevitable,
But failure falling,
Doom darkening.
Forever lost,
Broken and forgotten,
The fires cooling,
Beneath the sky,
The young dying,
Through sorrow’s rage,
A solution unfounded,
Honor’s pride unbending,
The one solution they can not contemplate,
Will take shape through love’s sacrifice.
Through doom,
Through ice and fire’s glowing,
One forsakes her duty,
Falling and dying,
Transformed to an earth dweller,
A mortal through magic’s grace,
She knows the plight,
Not out of duty to the magic born,
But out of desire for what is forbidden,
And her true heart’s love,
She will honor the pledge made.
She is the first,
Heart’s song,
Heart’s Fire glowing,
Beloved and forsaken,
The earth walker,
The bringer of salvation and despair.
Remember those who died in sorrow and shame.
Remember those who long for another choice.
Remember the one that became two that became many.
It is there choice,
Through magic’s grace,
Through blood and fire,
They are the ones left,
They are the secret keepers,
The changelings born of both and belonging to neither.
When sorrow took her away,
And shame condemned the twice born,
They must make the choice or be forsaken,
They were left,
A salvation to the heights,
New blood bringing new life,
A race condemned finds forbidden hope.
A despair to the earth born,
Cursed by mortals for what they are,
Yet, they are the protectors of the earth-dwellers,
Born from love and forbidden magic,
They choose the path of their destiny,
From love’s desire and sorrow’s dying,
They are the dragon sworn.
Nymphs Song
By tree and leaf,
By root and branch,
Long years uncounted,
Through warmth of sun,
Through chill of snow,
Long we here have dwelt.
In the brilliance of autumn,
In the newness of spring,
We have endured.
Through the mortal wars,
Through magic’s grace,
We have stood unbroken.
Fly the wind and hear the music,
Run the field and feel the strength,
Fear ye not the shadows of night,
Dance the stars and play under moon glow,
Young bird, fly you swift and free,
Cool wind bend the branch,
Burning sun sear the leaf,
Bitter cold freeze the blood,
Yet it is we who remember all the world,
Dig roots deep in cool earth,
Find the water and endure the weather,
Break not under storm or wind,
Break not under mortal hand,
Dark waters cold find the sea,
Spirit lost return to me.
Elven Song
Time throughout time,
Ageless and enduring,
Green strands stretch upwards to forever.
Green leaves grow,
Seasons turning them to crimsons and yellows,
Forsaken, they fly free in the autumn winds.
Life brings death.
Darkness brings rebirth.
Rainbows spin in a whirlpool of color.
Darkness surrounding,
Tiny, flickering pinpricks,
Like broken glass,
Under fires of shadow,
Through light and cold darkness,
One lone star tumbles, falling.
The World sleeps unaware.
The stars remember all loves forbidden.
Many loves forbidden,
That now lie shattered upon the green meadow,
Where only the yellow flowers,
And the red-tailed hawk,
Can still remember the red blood of battle.
The white breath of time eternal,
Soaring on magic’s silken wings,
Through fairy-white mushroom rings,
Love is stronger than any rainbow’s bridge.
Looking backward through the window of time,
The silver stars remember it all.
Through silvery mists,
The magic is everywhere.
The golden shadow of twilight,
The crimson ball traversing the blue arc,
Silver moonbeams in shapes of darkness,
Immortals live beyond dragon fire.
From green to blue and back again,
In the ancient hand of time,
The green trees,
And the ancient magic of the elves stand.
WAR
A golden sunrise in an azure sky,
The purple shadows of night depart,
Ageless trees with their canopy of green,
Slender slivers of golden sunshine,
Pierce this peaceful greenness.
An Emerald butterfly,
A robin with breast of ruby red,
The vibrant hummingbird and its unending quest for nectar,
The proud deer with antlers spread,
A tiny clearing with fairy-white mushrooms,
The forest is waiting.
Dreary grey buildings of stone,
Black machines of destruction,
The fiery explosions of bombs,
A river of red flows across the carpet of green,
People die.
The green forest is no more,
The red robin has fled in terror,
The butterfly lies,
Its faded and broken,
The fairy clearing lies blackened and barren,
Death fills this place of sadness.
We humans fight for unexplained reasons,
The colors of our skin,
The preference to religion,
We are all people of the rainbow,
We must learn or be like those who have come before,
Like Hiroshima.
Slowly, the forest is growing again.
The Lonely Candle
5-3-09
There are times when I walk through the water
that I feel my soul dripping from me
and spilling down fast to the river
like a wash of dry sobs from my heart.
There are days when the wind whispers to me
in soft words that my ears long to hear.
Like a love my cracked lips have forgotten,
I throw back my head and let it in.
Come dance with me dance with me
burn with me burn
and lie with me lie with me
while the Earth gently turns.
There are times when the flames just control me
sweep hot through my veins and go wild.
There are things I am loathed to admit to myself
there are things which my laughter can't hide.
There are angels who play you soft music
there are demons who blister your blood
there are ladies dressed dark in fine velvet
who glide through your dreams like a song.
And the candles glow faint from the window
the frost gleaming crystalin white
the breeze sighs alone through the willows
to herrald the dark winter night.
